She was born May 03, 1922 in Watson, Oklahoma to the late Fred Keiss and the late Lillie Reid Keiss. Lillie was united in marriage September 23, 1939 to Hershell Toon in Mena, Arkansas. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, and a friend to all who knew her and loved her. She will be dearly missed by all.

Funeral services will be Monday, April 30, 2012, 10:00 a.m. at Sulpher Springs Baptist Church in Watson with Brother Vic Anglin officiating. Interment will follow at the Watson Cemetery in Watson, Oklahoma under the direction of the Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
Pallbearers will include her grandsons, Regan Toon, Mitchell Vaught, Darrin Toon, Kevin Toon, Brent Toon, Brian Toon, Dale Bacorn, Joseph Toon, Robert Toon, Clay Toon, and Matthew Toon.

Brannon Dale Meador age 43 of Mena died Thursday, April 26, 2012 at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. He was born on Thursday, June 20, 1968 to Otey Donald Meador and Delores Ann James Layman in Pasadena, Texas.
Brannon served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. He was his own man and was a happy person and had a good heart. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and loved his children very much. Brannon was not afraid of hard work. He worked construction for many years with his brother. Brannon loved to hunt for arrowheads and go fishing. Brannon was a Christian and was a member of the Light of Glory Church in Mena. Brannon was a loving son, brother, father and friend and will be missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Otey and Patricia Meador of Mena; his mother and stepfather, Dolores and Jerry Layman of Neosho, Missouri; two sons, Osten Cunningham of Mena and Ayden Meador of Wichita, Kansas; four daughters, Olivia Cunningham of Mount Ida, Brittney Cunningham, Autumn Cunningham and Rachel Cunningham all of Mena; four brothers and sisters in law, Owen and Lisa Meador of Keokuk, Iowa, Michael and Roxanne Aleshire of Mena, Gerald and Dion Aleshire of Mena, David and Tina Aleshire of Enid, Oklahoma; three sisters and brother in law, Susie Sandifer of Hot Springs, Edwina Noble of Hot Springs and Kim and Jeff McCormack of Mena; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Thomas A. Phillips, age 83, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2012, in Mena.He was born March 3, 1929 in Hot Springs, Arkansas to the late Thomas William Phillips and the late Roxie Lorene Allen Phillips. He was united in marriage to Charlene Whitmore. Mr. Phillips was an aviation mechanic by trade, retiring from Bell Helicopter and was also a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the United States Navy. He enjoyed woodworking and was proficient in the making of walking sticks. He was also a member of the Masonic lodge of Victoria, Texas and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend.
He is survived by:
Wife: Charlene Phillips of Mena, Arkansas.
Son: Dale Walters and wife Katherine of Springtown, Texas.
Daughters: Ronda Thomas and husband Larry of Cranfills Gap, Texas; Missy Pledger and husband David of Fayetteville, Arkansas;Dee Beard of Grapevine, Texas; Mari Georg and husband Stefan of Grapevine, Texas.
9 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Roxie Phillips, a son, Terry Phillips, 1 brother and 4 sisters.
Mr. Phillips was sent for cremation under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. A private memorial service will be held at a later time. Memorials may be made to Ouachita Hospice.

Mrs. Pamela Marlene Cook Hewett, age 56, of Bastrop, Texas, formerly of Mena,
Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 20102 in Le Grange, Texas. She was born August 22, 1955 in Mena, Arkansas to the late Charles Edward Cook and the late June Bloomer Cook. She was united in marriage to David Hewett.
She was a 1973 graduate of Mena High School and went on to attend Henderson
State University.
Pamela was a loving wife, daughter, sister and friend and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by:

Kenneth Ray Parham age 69, of Mena, died Saturday, April 21, 2012 at his home. He was born on Wednesday, November 4, 1942 to Charles Obadiah and Lona Marie Smith Parham in Los Angeles, California.
Kenny was a family man. He loved spending time with them because a lot of time was spent away from home while he was driving cross country hauling cars around to different dealers for General Motors. Kenny had a passion for fast cars and built his own Drag Race car. Although he didn’t get to race much he did win 2 car shows with first place finishes in both. The first cars show was in the Beverly Hills Car Show and the second in the Big Bear Lake Car Show. He was very proud of this achievement. But above all else, he loved serving in his church. Kenny served in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Mena where he was Second Councilor in the Presidency, Elder Quorum President and Sunday school President. Kenny was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Ronald Parham and one sister, Doris Jefferies.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Parham of the home; two sons, Nathan Parham and wife Nancy of Golden Valley, Arizona and Brian Parham and wife, Leslie of Yucaipa, California; one step son, Johnny Upchurch and wife, Rika of Ontario, California; seven grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

James Roy Monroe Carmack of Little Rock, Arkansas was born 29 September 1941 to the late Monroe and Dorothy Carmack, passed away on 21 April 2012.
After serving in the United States Army for 20 years, he retired and moved his family back to Arkansas where he went on to be elected as Montgomery County Sherriff 6 times. James and his wife then moved to Little Rock where he worked with the Criminal Justice Institute, then finally the Pegasus Foundation.
He is survived by wife, Lavern Guthery-Carmack of 51 years from Little Rock, Arkansas, Son Russell and wife Lorri from Oden, Arkansas and grandsons, Gregory and Aaron. Son, Aaron Scott of Oden, Arkansas; Son, James Steven and wife Jodeen of Dixon, Missouri and grand-daughter, Amanda and husband Caleb Frazier of Fairbanks, Alaska, grandson Mathew Carmack and wife Chelsea of Aviano, Italy and great-granddaughter, Chloe; along with four sisters, six brothers, nieces, nephews , relatives, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Monroe and Dorothy Carmack.

Charles William (Jack.) Brewer, age 82, of Benton, Arkansas, formerly of Wickes, Arkansas passed away Friday, April 20, 2012, in Benton, Arkansas.
He was born on June 24, 1929 in Stillwell, Oklahoma to the late George Washington Brewer and the late Arbie Collins Brewer. He worked in highway construction for many years. Jack loved gardening, being outdoors, loved eating fine country cuisine, and watching old western films. He also loved country music and gospel hymns. Jack had a peace of mind with his Lord and Savior. He was a loving grandfather, great grandfather, step-grandfather, and a friend to all who knew him and loved him. He will be dearly missed by all.

She was born July 19, 1918 to the late William Davis and the late Mandy Baxter Davis. She was united in marriage to the late J. L. Hopper. She was a seamstress for many years at the Renova Shirt Factory here in Mena and was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church. Mrs. Hopper was a loving mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
She is survived by:
Daughters: Dorothy Moore and husband J.C. of Zafra, Oklahoma; Ellen Hensley and husband Glen of Octavia, Oklahoma.

David Carl Akins age 40 of Amarillo, Texas died Monday, April 2, 2012 in Texas. He was born on Monday, March 20, 1972 to Edward Carl Rinendorf and Elizabeth Victoria Akins in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was raised by his grandparents, Jack and Barbara Akins of Azle, Texas.
David enjoyed fishing. David was saved as a child and rededicated his life to the Lord in recent years. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by mother and two brothers, Bobby Akins and Leslie Akins.

She was born in Mena, Arkansas to Grover and Nita Cunningham. Stella was married to Jerry ‘Squirrel” Bowen for many happy years and was a homemaker. She loved going fishing and spending time with her grandchildren. Stella loved her family very much and was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and a friend to all who knew and loved her.

Bill was a dispatcher for the Polk County Sheriff’s office for many years. He was in the United States Marine Corp. serving in the Vietnam War and was of the Methodist faith.
Bill was a loving husband, father, brother and friend and he will be dearly missed.

Patricia Ann Kandels age 61 of Mena, died Thursday, March 29, 2012 at her home. She was born on Wednesday, April 19, 1950 to Thomas Edward and Anita Jaunine McGillivray Hardin in Blackwell, Oklahoma.
Pat was a loving person and enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. Pat’s dogs were very important to her and took very good care of them. She was very passionate about her animals and she supported animal rescue efforts. Pat was happiest around her friends where she was a bartender at the Elks Lodge #781 for 5 years. She was an active member of the Elks and was always willing to help in any way she could by volunteering her time. She was also a member of the American Legion and VFW. She was a loving sister and friends and will be missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Vinzenz Kandels and one brother, Tobin Hardin.
Survivors include one brother, John Hardin of Davenport, Washington; one sister, Jean Rosson of Bullhead City, Arizona; five nieces and nephews, Marjorie O’Reilly of Landers, California, Shawna Erisson of Davenport, Washington, Ida Hardin of Eugene, Oregon, Tom Hardin of Spokane, Washington and Jenny Paulson of Duluth, Minnesota and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was born October 23, 1945 in Tulare, California to the late John Carlton Prine and the late Leta Mae Dickens Prine. He was united in marriage to Judy Wilson on December 8, 1962. Mr. Prine was an automobile mechanic and ran his own paint and body shop in California. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, and will be missed by his family and those who knew and loved him.

Mr. Willard Gordon, age 91, of Mena, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord, Friday, April 6, 2012 in Mena.
He was born April 7, 1920 in Marble City, Oklahoma to the late Miller Jack Gordon and the late Dollie Holt Gordon. He was united in marriage to Juanita Chalk Gordon and spent his life as a resident of Oklahoma and Arkansas. He was an oil field worker and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Gordon was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend and will be greatly missed.

Herman Jones, age 86 of Mena died Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at the Veterans Center in Talihina, Oklahoma. He was born on Wednesday, April 29, 1925 to Thomas Earl and Ida Myrtle Chrisswell Jones in Ethel, Arkansas.
Herman served our country in the Army during World War II. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and watching sports. His family was most important to him. He was a member of the American Legion, the DAV and was a member of Belview Missionary Baptist Church at Ethel, Arkansas.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Lorene Williams Jones, seven brothers, and four sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Elda Jones of the home; one son and daughter in law, Jimmy and Ann Jones of Brownsville, Texas; one daughter, Jawanda Cantu of Romance, Arkansas; one sister, Syvella Parker of Crockett’s Bluff, Arkansas; his mother in law, Helen McLain of Mena; three grandchildren, Brett Clement of Brownsville, Texas, Joshua Roberson of Searcy, Arkansas and Jalen Cantu of Romance, Arkansas; two great grandchildren, Bernadette Clement of Brownville, Texas, and Elijah Roberson of Searcy, Arkansas; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be held Saturday, April 7, 2012 at Belview Missionary Baptist Church in Ethel, Arkansas at 2:00 P.M. with Brother Charles Jackson and Brother Curtis Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Ethel, Arkansas under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home. A visitation will be held Friday, April 6, 2012 from 6- 8 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel.

Greg "Opie" Singleton
February 11, 1981 - April 7, 2012
Greg “Opie” Singleton age 31 of Mena died Saturday, April 7, 2012 at the Mena Regional Health System. He was born on Wednesday, February 11, 1981 to Steven Gerald and Cathy Lynn Lott Singleton in Mena, Arkansas.
Opie was a person that loved the outdoors and was at peace with being on his deer stand or on the lake or river fishing. Hunting with his family and friends was where Opie was the happiest. He was president of the Fox and Wolf Hunting Club in Mena. Opie graduated from Mena High School in 1999 and was very active in the Future Farmers of America where he served as the FFA Secretary. After high school, he went to work for a power line contractor and worked as a lineman. Opie was very proud of this and also getting his journeymen’s card for electrical work. Opie was a loving son, brother, grandson and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Gerald and Denia Singleton.
Survivors include his parents, Steve and Cathy Singleton of Mena; two brothers, Gary Singleton and wife his Colby of Cove and Jason Singleton of Mena; one sister, Jessica Singleton of Mena; maternal grandparents, Bobby Lott and Norma Lott both of Mena; his uncle and aunt, Bruce and Susie Cureton of Vandervoort; one niece, Avery Singleton and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was born May 16, 1925 in Vandervoort, Arkansas to the late Wyman Luther Winkley and the late Lela Phillips Winkley. He was a Timber worker and also worked for Tyson Hatchery for 25 years. Pete was of the Christian faith and never met a stranger. He was a loving uncle and friend and will be greatly missed.

and the late Flora Klein Ritchie. She was united in marriage to the late Lester
“Chalk” Rotter. She was an Educator by profession and was of the Methodist
faith, and was an active member of the United Methodist Women’s Association.
Mrs. Rotter was also active in the American Legion Auxiliary and the Delta Kappa
Gamma Sorority. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and
friend and will be missed by her friends and family.
